Criticality Level Priority
Rationale The need to identify locations of thermal refuge and how to enhance them will be increasingly critical to the preservation and enhancement of salmon in mainstem habitats under increased temperature regimes projected with climate change. For example, high water temperatures are thought to be a major contributor to the high mortality in returning sockeye salmon in 2015. The effects of climate change are already being experienced and are likely to escalate in a relative short period of time.
